Meet a Mentor ProgramA main part of the Jazz and Blues Festival is education and community. This year sees the launching of a new program, "Meet a Mentor". This program selects local applicants, 18 and younger, who want to get a chance to play a tune with one of the festival's participating bands. The successful applicant is put in touch with a group member and helped to a successful performance. We think this is a real opportunity for the young player to get more experience in the real world of performance and to make new contacts in the jazz community.
This year's successful applicants are: Geoffrey McFarlane, guitar. Geoffrey will be performing with the KC Kelly Band, Sat. Aug. 14 at Mistaken Identity Vineyards. Gig is 2 - 4 pm, Geoffrey's playing time yet to be decided. Daniel Hunter, alto sax. Daniel will be performing with Planet Music, Sat. Aug. 14 at Mistaken Identity Vineyards. Gig is 7 - 9pm, Daniel's playing time yet to be decided. The Meet a Mentor Program is made possible by the generous funding of the Ray Newman Fund. |
